The No-brainer
Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary
Scripture Text: Galatians 3:10 and Romans 4:15–16
Series: Comments on Galatians
Who would you rather depend upon: yourself or the almighty God? It is a no-brainer, right? Yet, so many try to depend upon their works, their religious practices, and keeping the law as their way to God, to heaven, and to eternal life. It will not work; Scripture promises that this leads to the curse of death. The law brings death every single time. Life depends upon faith — faith alone.
Nothing you do earns any merit with God, simply because he chooses to give you his mercy and salvation through grace, not through your deeds. If you rely on works of the law instead of God’s grace, you are under a curse. You are in a cursed state of divine condemnation. The only way to avoid this curse is to hold on to the promise of the blessing he gives us in Christ alone.
