Today's Scripture Jigsaw

No human is able to atone for the sins of another. Luther wrote, “The power of sin and death could be broken only by a greater power.” God’s power that is greater than sin and death is himself. Yet Scripture teaches us that it is Christ who is God’s atonement. Attributing this power to Jesus is the equivalent of ascribing him divinity. This divine grace of God may only be received through faith in Christ. Faith alone in Christ alone is the only way to apprehend God’s grace. This is the fundamental article of our religion, and why we put no stock in our own devotion or piety. Having such faith, we confess that Christ is God forever.
