The Finger of God
Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary
Scripture Text: Galatians 3:10 and Matthew 3:13–17
Series: Comments on Galatians
No one keeps the law perfectly. Though that was Moses’ regulation, no one (John 7:19), not even Moses (Exodus 16:28) could keep from offense. So, what is truly necessary but than to be called holy by God himself. For our conscience will always condemn us, just as the devil does. Both are ready to point the finger. God also points his finger but he points to Christ. When we fail to keep the law of Moses and we sin, God points to to Christ Jesus and would have us believe again that he is the one who fulfills all righteousness — even our own. We are counted holy and righteousness through faith in Christ alone (Romans 3:22).
