Sojourning in Tents
Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary
Scripture Text: Galatians 3:9 and Hebrews 11:8–10
Series: Comments on Galatians
There were many who did things by faith. The 11th chapter of Hebrews names a few. Abel made an offering by faith. Enoch pleased God through faith. Noah built an ark. Abraham went from his homeland toward another city. By faith he lived in tents, abiding in the promised land but awaiting another land of promise, the New Jerusalem of heaven.
Whatever else Abraham may have accomplished in life, it pales in comparison to his abiding in tents. There he waited, abiding the rest of his life with that child of promise, waiting for the child of promise for us all. He waited and waited — in faith. Abraham’s faith did not give out, sojourning in tents with Sarah and Isaac through difficult days that required steady faith in God.
We too, abiding in these fleshy tents, groan toward eternity. Yet we may do so with courage and certainty, walking by faith in the Child of Promise (2 Corinthians 5:1–7). May your faith in him never falter.
