Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary
Scripture Text: Galatians 1:15-17 and Matthew 23:13–14
Series: Comments on Galatians
Our message to our co-workers, family, friends, and church could be riddled with law. You should not do this; you should have done that. Why do we insist on this easy but egregious error? We know better because Jesus teaches us another way. Perhaps, we are interested in looking better, more religious, than the other guy.
What if we preached Christ crucified instead of crucifying our friends and family? Might they then change for the better? Might we?
What if we changed our expectations of others into hopes for them, praying they keep faith in Christ, instead of keeping our interpretations of the law? Another group insisted that people keep their reading of the law? Jesus had a very specific warning for that group — which exists in our churches yet today.
