Living by Faith
Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary
Scripture Text: Galatians 3:11 and Habakkuk 2:1–4
Series: Comments on Galatians
The one who trusts in his own righteousness will be disappointed. We are a people who expect things right now: a sandwich at the drive-through, a computation on a calculator or computer, or even holiness from something we have done. But we must, instead, be a people who wait, who expect God to accomplish the doing.
This, he has done. He has done what the law is powerless to do, meeting the requirement of the law for us and in us through his cross (Romans 8:3–4). Now, we must wait for it, not by simple action, not by doing righteous deeds or by law-keeping, but by keeping faith in him who has already accomplished it for us. The appointed time is coming and only those who live with faith in God’s Christ will be justified and be given eternal life.
